the only constant, an evening length work by Genevieve Carson

Developed in various iterations since 2016, artistic director Genevieve Carson presents a new evening length project, the only constant, a work that skates the delicate line between composure and chaos.  Featuring the classic compositions of Bach, Mozart, and Chopin, the score is enhanced and distorted by Los Angeles composer Robert Amjärv. The result is a work that is all at once wild, graceful, heartbreaking, and ironic.

Through her direction, Carson aims to capture the profundity of human existence—the solitude of individuality and how our paths are knocked off course and altered by the happenstance of meeting others. Embodying the feeling of juxtaposition that makes up the human existence, the only constant sheds light on the small fleeting moments of beauty that make the perpetual struggle of life all worth it. The dancers are challenged to grapple with feelings of frustration and exhaustion, and ultimately required to question their own motivation to engage.
