Nana

The work sheds a bittersweet light on an individual grappling with loneliness, and how this time and space is filled with card games, namely Solitaire, and flurries of boisterous activity conjured by memories of a past life filled with colorful characters and potent experiences.  Both humorous and moving, the piece taps into the undeniable feeling that someday, we will all be alone with only our imagination to color in the silence and space.  The piece is based on Genevieve’s visits to her nana’s house during family vacations, and the image of her grandmother sitting alone at her kitchen table playing Solitaire as the rest of the family drove away.
