PRESS RELEASE: "The L.A. Contemporary Dance Company (LACDC) presents “Value System” – an evening length piece collaboratively choreographed and performed by the 10 dancer ensemble. In this piece, the company recognizes the beauty of collaborative work - people coming together to share their gifts, talents and personal stories to create something greater than themselves. To create the work, each artist responded to what they felt was valuable in this chaotic time of financial upheaval and created a solo to be gifted to another dancer. These solos were then transformed into duets, quartets and other group sections in the piece. The movement ranges from modern to jazz to traditional Philippine dance accompanied by an alternative soundtrack and original compositions played live by composer Eric Mason. The dancers move with agility, grace and candid passion against a painted landscape of rolling drops designed by muralist Ah Rong Kim. As Artistic Director, Kate Hutter describes the essence of the work, “Dance is what we know, love and live by. We want to share this piece with the community to remind them of those things that are in our gut and at our core that are of greater value than the declining dollar.”
