PRESS RELEASE: "LACDC presents the work of Kate Hutter and Kevin Williamson, two artists known for their collaborative work. In Peephole People they explore as individuals the quirks of the human psyche while informing and coaching each others creative process as a collaborative team. Referencing his experience with improvisation, as well as a long-term career with Maria Gillespie’s Oni Dance, Kevin Williamson’s “Excavating Gray” blends highly athletic, floor-based movement with subtle gestures and candid moments, giving the piece a dynamic power without forfeiting its vulnerable characteristics. In the work, we find that “gray” is where the neurotic, turbulent and desirous person is caught often making their dreams smaller, less extreme, and their cravings more tolerable through habits and rehearsed behaviors. In contrast, Kate Hutter’s “From the Office of Internal Affairs” investigates the social disabilities and self-inflicted inadequacies of a group of characters living in a world plucked from a Michel Gondry film. Unscripted dialogue, improvisations, comedic ballet rip-offs and a plethora of movement with rough edges, grit and soul pepper this montage of people attempting to be liked and understood."
