New Works
October 26 - 29 & November 2 - 5, 2006
Diavolo Dance Theater

PRESS RELEASE: "The program will include the world premier of two new works by local choreographers Laura Karlin and Shari Brookler with origional music by Toby Karlin and Shawn Thomas Odyssey. Artistic Director, Kate Hutter adds to the repertoire her latest creation drawing on the influences of Theater of the Absurd and the surreal imagery of Rene Magritte. With the striking talent of their newly assembled company and daring virtuosity of their designers, LACDC’s performances are sure to shine against the industrial chic of the Diavolo Dance Space.

The talent is fresh, the energy is raw, and the dancing is straight from the gut. LACDC is a group unafraid of the absurd, the awkward or the misunderstood. Through a highly collaborative process, these artists have created dance to challenge our ideas of truth and the settings in which honest expressions can be found. By placing the characters in off-kilter environments, they discovered a refreshingly vulnerable and unshielded way of experiencing the world and connecting with others around them. Sometimes it is all a matter of perspective. You need to take a look at the world with your head tilted, one eye closed, and even upside down to reinvent what you accept as reality and what you believe to be true."
