Modern Myths and Monsters

Diavolo Dance Theater
PRESS RELEASE: "A repertory concert showcasing the world premiere of four new works by a talented and inspiring trio of female choreographers with strong individual voices and bold choreography that pushes the technical prowess and emotive vulnerability of the performers. The Wagon Train is Divided by Mecca Vazie Andrews flashes back to the late 1800’s for a contemporary look at westward expansion and the affects of social constructs on humankind. Nichol Mason’s Animus focuses on personal monstrosity and the people that influence the creation of our abusive inner dialogues. HyperSuperUltraNow by Kate Hutter explores the differing evolution of human beings into either highly sensitized creatures violently responsive to stimulus or robots who are numb to the onslaught of images, sounds and tastes found in our man-made world. And Clippings reunites creative partners Kate Hutter and Kevin Williamson from LACDC’s fall show, pinky swear, to create a piece about how we digest information and news, and lace together events in our personal history. The piece is read like a newspaper page where random passages and photos are juxtaposed, and emotionally potent moments are abandoned as your eye wanders to the next story."
