LACMA Outreach Programs
February 2007
L.A. County Museum of Art

PRESS RELEASE: "LACDC paired up with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) for their NexGen Family Sunday programs throughout the month of February.  As part of the Magritte and Contemporary Art: The Treachery of Images exhibit, LACDC will present an interactive living landscape installation on the museum grounds every Sunday from 12pm to 3pm. Artistic director Kate Hutter hopes to show participants, particularly the children whom the program targets, that “art doesn’t have to have walls or a standoffish, sterile finish”. LACDC hopes to inspire a generation used to looking at things in boxes- television, computer screens, buildings- to get involved in art, and to question traditional ideas of form and presentation.

The partnership also provides a supplement to arts education with LACDC’s participation in the Evening for Educators on February 6, 2007. LACDC will perform as well as lead a discussion and workshop. The attending K-12 teachers will be invited to join in games and exercises designed to examine the relationships between gesture and word. The evening is designed to equip educators with unique tools to bring back to the classroom and engage students in examining various forms of communication."
