Ben Shearn

Bio

For years Shearn was the in-house videographer for Los Angeles-based record labels Not Not Fun and 100% Silk. Since 2010 he has conceived, photographed, directed, and edited music videos for a host of prominent independent artists, such as Moullinex, Peaking Lights, LA Vampires, Maria Minerva, Ital, and Mi Ami. His videos have been featured on Pitchfork, Gorilla vs. Bear, Stereogum, FACT, and Tiny Mix Tapes, amongst others.

In 2012 Shearn directed the feature-length music documentary/contemporary dance film, SILK. He toured through Europe, the UK, and Russia with core artists from 100% Silk roster, capturing the performances, crowds, and cultural environs of the international underground dance music community. The themes and emotions of the tour experience are accentuated by staged dance sequences, created in collaboration with choreographer Mecca Vazie Andrews and the Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company. The film was an official selection at the following festivals: CPH:DOX 2013 (Copenhagen), F.A.M.E. Music and Arts Experience – la Gaîté lyrique 2014 (Paris), Planete+Doc 2013 (Warsaw) and the Melbourne International Film Festival 2014 (Australia).

Most recently, Shearn directed and edited the dance film PHRASE, featuring the L.A. Contemporary Dance Company.
